Set up your Peko Pal
Setting up a new Peko Pal takes a few minutes and happens in the Peko Pal app. Your phone finds the Pal over Bluetooth, gives it your home Wi-Fi details, and the Pal downloads everything it needs.
Before you start
- A charged Peko Pal (see Power and charging if it is new).
- Your phone, with Bluetooth on and the Peko Pal app installed and signed in.
- The name and password of your home Wi-Fi network.
- Keep the Pal and phone close together.
You do not need to make a child profile first. You can create one during setup.
Step by step
- Turn on the Pal. A brand-new Pal starts pairing mode by itself the first time it is switched on. The logo shows a spinning blue light.
- Start setup in the app. On the Home tab, tap Set Up a Pal. Or open the Kids tab, tap +, then Set Up a Pal.
- Allow Bluetooth. If your phone asks, say yes. If it was refused, the app shows Bluetooth Required and an Open Settings button.
- Choose your Pal. The app shows "Looking for Peko Pal devices..." and lists any Pals it finds. Tap yours.
- Choose the child. When it says Connected!, pick who the Pal is for under "Who is this device for?", or tap Create New Profile (name, birth month, birth year, then Save).
- Name the Pal. The name starts as "(Child's name)'s Peko Pal". Change it if you like, then tap Next.
- Pick your Wi-Fi. Choose your network from the list. Pull down to scan again if it is missing.
- Enter the password and tap Connect. An open network skips this. See Connecting your Peko Pal to WiFi if it fails.
- Choose apps. Every app is switched on to start with. Switch off any you don't want, then tap Continue. You can change apps later.
- Wait while it installs. The app shows setup stages and the Pal restarts by itself. When it says "Your device is set up and ready to go!", tap Done.
What the Pal does during setup
- Blue spinner: pairing mode, waiting for the app.
- Restart: near the end the Pal restarts by itself. This is normal.
- After the restart: the Pal is ready and speaks for itself.
Stories and music may keep downloading in the background after setup finishes. The Pal works meanwhile.
After setup
The app then offers three short, skippable steps for your child: what Peko should know about them, whether Peko AI is on, and who their top friends are. Tap Next or Skip for now on each.
The first time the Pal starts after a new pairing, it opens How to Use Peko, a spoken walkthrough of the buttons and apps. Your child presses down to move on. It plays once by itself, and you can find it again in the Pal's main menu.
If something goes wrong
- The app can't find the Pal. Make sure the Pal is on. Hold Volume Up and Volume Down together until the logo turns blue. Holding them again leaves pairing mode.
- Wi-Fi won't connect. Check the password and try again. See Connecting your Peko Pal to WiFi.
- Something else looks wrong. Tap Try Again on the error screen, or see Care and troubleshooting.
