Peko Pal

Looking after your Peko Pal

Everyday care

A Peko Pal is built to be carried around by a child, but it is still an electronic device.

  • Keep it dry. It is not waterproof. Baths, sinks, pools and rain are all bad news, and liquid damage is not something a restart fixes.
  • Wipe it with a barely damp cloth and nothing else. No cleaning sprays, no solvents.
  • Don't leave it somewhere hot, like a car in summer. Heat is hard on batteries.
  • Charge it with a normal USB charger. Nothing exotic is needed and nothing exotic helps.

The memory card

Downloaded stories, podcasts and other audio live on a microSD card inside the device. It is not meant to be removed, and there is no reason to touch it in normal use.

Do not swap the card between devices. The card carries the identity of the device it was set up with, so moving one to different hardware leaves the device in an inconsistent state that can only be cleared by wiping it and pairing again from scratch. If you think the card has failed, contact support rather than replacing it yourself.

When something looks wrong

Work down this list — most problems stop at the first or second step.

  1. The logo is pulsing red. Something has failed. Note what your child was doing, then turn the device off and back on.
  2. It has stopped responding to buttons. Hold the power button for ten seconds to force it off, then turn it back on normally. This failsafe sits below the software and works even when nothing else does.
  3. The logo spins white and never settles. It cannot reach your WiFi. See Connecting your Peko Pal to WiFi.
  4. The logo spins magenta and never settles. It has WiFi but cannot reach our servers — usually the internet connection beyond your router.
  5. An app is missing. Check it is still added to that child's device in the Peko Pal app, and that the device has been on WiFi since you added it.
  6. New content has not arrived. Large libraries take a while on the first sync. Leave it on WiFi, plugged in, and give it time.

If none of that helps, contact Peko Pal support with what the logo was doing and roughly when the trouble started — those two details narrow it down quickly.

Good to know

  • Turning it off and on is safe at any time. Nothing is lost: playback positions, volume and the app in use are all remembered.
  • A forced ten-second power-off is also safe. It is not a factory reset and it erases nothing.
