How Peko Pal's AI works

AI on Peko Pal is optional. It is a safer first AI than a chatbot on your phone: your child talks to it by voice, it answers out loud, and you set the rules.

How a child uses it

Your child holds the action button, asks something, and lets go. Peko answers out loud, in short spoken replies, and often asks a question back to keep the conversation going.

The AI apps

AI apps are labeled so you always know which ones use AI. They include:

  • Peko Bot, a friendly companion with personalities such as Story Time, Adventure Time and Jokes.
  • Lessons, where you set a topic and a goal. Peko asks questions at your child's level rather than handing out answers, and you see their level, progress and skills in the app. See Lessons.

What parents control

In the Peko Pal app, for each child:

  • The instructions. You write the instructions that steer Peko, and the topics you want it to avoid. When a child raises one, Peko changes the subject gently.
  • What Peko can do for your child. Separate switches for sending and reading messages, calling friends, kid-safe web search, remembering earlier conversations, and opening apps and settings. Peko only contacts friends you have approved. It searches with a kid-safe filter and never opens websites.
  • What Peko knows. Optionally, your child's interests and city, so its answers fit.

Staying in the loop

You can look back over your child's conversations as written transcripts in the app, so you know what they're curious about and how they're using Peko. Transcripts keep only the words, never the audio, and are deleted after 90 days. See Reading your child's conversations.

Where the AI runs

When your child uses an AI app, their voice is streamed live over the internet to a cloud AI service so it can answer. The AI apps need Wi-Fi.
