What is a "first device before the phone"?

Most children get a phone because it is the only way to reach their friends and family on their own. A first device is the step before that: something a child can call their own, that lets them stay in touch and keep themselves busy, without a screen and without the open internet. Peko Pal is built to be that device.
What a child gets
- Their own way to reach people. Voice messages and calls with the friends and family you have approved, and a walkie-talkie for nearby Pals. No borrowing your phone, and nobody outside the approved list can reach them.
- Something to listen to. Stories and podcasts you have chosen are stored on the device, so they play in the car or on a plane without Wi-Fi. Internet radio plays when there is Wi-Fi.
- A way to meet AI with you. If you turn it on, your child can hold the button, ask a question and hear an answer out loud, or work through a lesson at their level. It is optional, every AI app is labeled, and you write the instructions it follows.
All of it works by pressing buttons and listening. There is nothing to scroll, no feed, no app store a child can browse, and nothing is listening until a child holds the button.
What a parent keeps
The guardrails live in the Peko Pal app on your iPhone: which apps are on the device, who your child can talk to, what the AI is told and what it avoids, and when the device winds down for the night. You can look back over their conversations to stay in the loop, and you can change your mind about any of it at any time.
Why not just a phone, or a tablet?
A phone gives a child everything at once: the open internet, every app, every stranger. A tablet is a screen with the same problems and no way to reach anyone. A first device is deliberately smaller. It does the few things a child actually needs from a device, and leaves the rest for later, when you decide they are ready. The comparison in detail is in Peko Pal vs a phone or tablet.
Who it is for
Peko Pal is made for children from about 3 to 12. Younger children use it for stories, music and a nightlight; older ones use the friends, lessons and AI apps. The same device grows with them, because you choose what is on it.
