Peko Pal

Is there a walkie-talkie for kids that works without the internet?

Yes. Every Peko Pal has a Walkie-Talkie app. Your child holds the action button to talk and lets go to listen, and any other Peko Pal nearby on the same channel hears them straight away. It needs no Wi-Fi, no internet and no phone.

How it works

The Pals talk directly to each other over a short-range radio link. That means it works in the same room or a few rooms away, like a classic walkie-talkie, not across town. There are four channels, and pressing up or down on the direction pad switches between them; the Pal says the new channel out loud so a child never has to read anything.

A beep means you are live and a boop means you have stopped, and the logo glows green while your child is talking. Only one person can talk at a time, so letting go of the button is how you hear the reply.

What it is good for

  • Two siblings in different rooms, or a child and a parent in the garden.
  • Playdates and sleepovers where every child has a Pal.
  • Trips where there is no Wi-Fi at all: the walkie-talkie does not care.

Walkie-Talkie only talks to other Peko Pals. For reaching people who are further away, or who have a phone instead of a Pal, Peko Pal's voice messages and calls do that over Wi-Fi with people you approve. See Can my child message and call friends without a phone?.

What parents should know

  • Nothing is recorded or saved. Voice is live only.
  • Channels are not private. They keep conversations apart, but any Peko Pal in range on the same channel can hear. It is a walkie-talkie, not a phone line.
  • It uses no AI and no account. There is nothing to set up and no settings in the parent app; you can turn the app off or remove it from the device if you prefer.
  • While Walkie-Talkie is open, the Pal is not connected to your home Wi-Fi. It reconnects when your child leaves the app.

The button-by-button guide is in Walkie-Talkie.
