Printing from your Peko Pal
Your child can ask Peko to print what they made: a picture, a story, a list. They say something like "print my story" or "print my picture on 4x6 paper", and it comes out of your printer at home.
What you need
- A printer that connects to WiFi. Most printers made in the last several years work, including ones that say AirPrint on the box.
- The printer turned on and on the same WiFi network as the Peko Pal.
- Open Apps & Settings turned on for your child in the Peko Pal app. Printing is one of the things it allows. There is nothing to install and no printer to set up.
How your child prints
- Your child makes something with Peko, or asks about one they already made.
- They ask Peko to print it. Peko checks with them first ("Do you want me to print it?") and waits for a yes.
- Peko finds the printer on your WiFi and prints. It tells your child when it has been sent.
Things with a layout, like a list, itinerary, chart or invitation, print as a colorful page made for your child's age. Long text, like a whole story, or anything your child asks to have as plain text, prints as plain text.
If there is more than one printer at home, Peko asks which one to use, by name, and remembers the answer for the rest of the conversation. Your child can also say it up front: "print it on the Canon".
Paper size
Peko prints on your printer's usual paper, normally US letter. Your child can ask for another size by name: letter, A4, legal, 4x6, 5x7 or 8x10. If your printer doesn't have that paper, Peko prints on what it has and tells your child so.
If nothing prints
- Check that the printer is on and connected to the same WiFi as the Peko Pal. A printer that has gone to sleep or lost its WiFi is the most common reason.
- Check that it has paper and ink.
- Ask Peko to try again. If it can't print, it says so and suggests asking a grown-up. It won't explain what went wrong.
- Check that Open Apps & Settings is on for your child.
Good to know
- The Peko Pal sends the page straight to your printer over your home WiFi. To lay out a story or list, the words are sent to Peko's service to be turned into a page. They are not kept afterward.
- Some printers can print only the first page of a long story. Most print every page.
- Printers that only understand their own maker's special format, and old printers without WiFi, are not supported.
