# How to Use Peko

How to Use Peko is a spoken tour of your Peko Pal, read aloud one topic at a
time: the buttons, volume and brightness, the glowing logo, apps, friends and
messages, lessons, WiFi, battery and charging, and looking after the device.

It opens by itself the first time a new Pal is set up, so a child can learn it by
ear. Unlike a story, it does not run on to the next topic. After each topic it
stops and waits, so your child decides when to hear more.

## The buttons

| Button | What it does |
|--------|--------------|
| Action button (press) | Pauses the topic while it plays. When it is paused or has finished, plays the current topic again. |
| Action button (hold, double-press) | Not used in this app. |
| Direction pad down | Plays the next topic. On the last topic it plays that one again. |
| Direction pad up | Plays the previous topic. On the first topic it plays that one again. |
| Direction pad left | Jumps back 15 seconds within the topic. |
| Direction pad right | Jumps forward 15 seconds within the topic. |
| Volume up / down | Louder and quieter, as in every app. |
| Power button (quick press) | Leaves the walkthrough and returns to the main menu. |

Left and right only work while a topic is playing. Very early in a topic they may
do nothing for a few seconds.

## What you'll hear and see

The app has no spoken prompts of its own. The only voice is the walkthrough
itself, one recorded topic at a time. The status light moves with the sound while
a topic plays and breathes slowly in yellow when it is paused or waiting. See

## Settings in the Peko Pal app

Open the app in the Peko Pal app to see its list of topics. You can play each one
from your phone to preview it. The topics come with the app and can't be edited,
reordered or added to. You can remove the app if you no longer want it.

## Tips

- Hearing the topics in order works well, but children can jump to the one they
  need with up and down.
- If a topic ends and everything goes quiet, that is on purpose. Press down for
  the next one, or the action button to hear it again.
- Reopening the app carries on from the topic and place where it was left.
- To bring it back later, add it from the Store.

## Good to know

- The topics are downloaded to the device over WiFi, then play without a
  connection.
- Nothing is recorded, and it does not use the microphone or AI.
