# Night Mode

Night Mode turns your Peko Pal into a bedtime companion: a soft glowing
nightlight and steady, calming noise to help your child settle down and fall
asleep.

When it opens, the light glows red and the noise starts, easing in gently over
a couple of seconds. Your child can switch the light color, make the noise
brighter or deeper, or turn the light off and keep just the sound.

## The buttons

| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Action button (press) | Turns the nightlight off, or back on. The sound keeps playing. |
| Action button (hold or double-press) | Not used in this app |
| Direction pad up | Previous light: red, green, or twinkle (loops around) |
| Direction pad down | Next light: red, green, or twinkle (loops around) |
| Direction pad left | Makes the noise brighter and hissier, like white noise |
| Direction pad right | Makes the noise deeper and softer, like a low rumble |
| Volume buttons | Quieter and louder, as in every app |
| Power button (quick press) | Leaves Night Mode and goes to the main menu. See [Getting around your Peko Pal](https://www.pekopal.com/guide/navigation). |

Up and down do nothing while the nightlight is off. Press the action button to
turn it back on first.

## What you'll hear and see

- The sound is steady noise made on the device itself. It fades in over about
  two seconds.
- Red is a solid red glow, green is a solid green glow, and twinkle is a soft
  sparkle.
- Night Mode does not speak. Changes are heard in the noise or seen in the
  light.

## Settings in the Peko Pal app

Night Mode has no settings in the Peko Pal app. The noise setting your child
chose is remembered on the device for next time.

## Tips

- Red is the gentlest light for eyes adjusting to the dark.
- Press left or right a few times. Each press changes the noise a small step,
so keep pressing to hear the difference.
- Set the volume first, then leave it running. Night Mode keeps the device
awake instead of letting it drift off, so leave the Peko Pal plugged in
  overnight.

## Good to know

- Night Mode works without Wi-Fi. There is no AI, no microphone and no
  recording.
- The noise setting is saved when your child leaves Night Mode, and the light
  starts red again each time.
